If you bought Acronis True Image for $9.99 here's how to get Disk Director for free

Here's the latest news for those who managed to buy True Image for $9.99 but didn't get a free copy of Disk Director.

Joe Zagar, one of our site visitors sent me this email on the 1st of October, 2008.

"Gizmo, here is an update on the Acronis / Disk Director issue. This is the copy of a note one of our Computer Club members received from Acronis Support.

I apologize for the extreme delay in getting back to you but there were a few issues needed to be resolved. Please be aware that the promotional that you saw was not real. I've been in contact with the marketing folks all the way up to the Director to find out what has happened and evidently someone had created a false website. However, the good news is that we've decided to honor the requests that have already been processed for good customer relations. Below you will find a serial for Disk Director. Please let me know if there is anything else that we can do for you and I hope that you enjoy the software.

Thank you,

Michael Lee

This seems unambiguous; if bought Acronis True Image at the $9.99 price and you want Disk Director for free then contact Acronis Customer Support and you should get a copy.

I got their lastest beta TI Home 2009 for free.
Never sent them anything and heard nothing from them.

I've never decided if Acronis is crooked or just horribly managed.
I bought True Image 9 and downloaded it.
Three days later they announced 10 - when I asked for a free upgrade or at least a discount they said 'tough'.
Several emails later - including postings to several pubs & etc. - they relented and sent me a code to download TI 10.
To install TI 10 you have to install TI 9, provide that password, then install l0 with its passcode.

A few months later I moved everything to a new computer - Acronis would not install because its install code was in use.
Many more letters. It finally got installed. Over 9 again.

I'm about to move again and expect the same dumb customer relations.
On the good side, when it works, TI images my hard drive. But it has at times said 'back up?' 'What back up?' Neat.

As to a promo to pick up an old version of True Image, there is no where on the planet that I can find where one can download it - most especially from A's own site. And the promo code will not work with the original download of TI 9 which I still have.

Maybe being 'down under' has affected their 'brains'. It never did with the other Aussies I've known - sharp, heads-up people - maybe these guys are just overly in-bred.
If you're gonna deal with them, wear gloves, count your fingers first, take notes, and never give up.

I paid for the 9.99 offer but received no license code at first (though they transferred money from my account). After complaining several times, the code came after some time. Then after some time they sent the code again. Seems there is some trouble in their bookkeeping :-)

I got Acronis Home 10 the regular way, and don't know anything about Disk Director.

Acronis has saved me many hours of work by just restoring my machine to the last "when everyting was still ok" state. But I must give a serious warning for those of us who also use the otherwise marvelous free (or paid) Online Armor firewall:

When you make a new Secure Zone in Acronis to store your backups in, make sure you put OA in learning mode before you allow Acronis the necessary reboot, otherwise OA's Program Guard will block the change. My machine froze halveway the Acronis Secure Zone making process after reboot, to the point that I could not even turn my pc off by pushing the physical "On/Off" button. I had to pull the plug, stick it again in the socket, and press F12 > CD/DVD, and insert my production CD to reformat... Luckily my machine still reacted to that! Cause it would not even react to my Acronis Startup CD...

After that I put OA in "Learning mode" before I click "OK" for the Acronis bootup to make a new Secure Zone, and no problem. Next OA must of course be set in regular mode again to be protected online.

Acronis finally sent my serial #
I had to download 4 times before I got one that wasn't corrupt.
Got it installed, try to open the program and BOOM!
It appears Windows has crashed (appears).
I try to reboot and just a big error.
Now I have to go to the recovery panel.
Nothing in the recovery panel seems to work, recovery panel says to do /CHKDSK.
/CHKDSK doesn't work when there is no disk to check.
Acronis True Image has NUKED MY C DRIVE!

Thanks Acronis, You Suck!

I really like my new Linux Xubuntu OS, and it only cost me $9.99 to watch to worst comp meltdown that I've ever seen.

This is interesting, I bought TI for 10 bucks and didn't receive disk director, I questioned Acronis and was told DD wasn't part of the promotion. Based on other responses I saw that day I asked Acronis again and this time (I also supplied the order info for my purchase of TI this time) I got a link and serial # immediately. I think Acronis support wasn't up to speed on what was offered.
It seems very odd that the 2 people responding have had such problems getting replies from Acronis.
If you bought from the Acronis website you shouldn't have to worry about your purchase. I received yesterday a reminder that my 10 dollar purchase will be showing up on my credit card, nothing else required, just a reminder.
For 10 bucks just the copy of TI was well worth it, the DD throw in is just icing on the cake.

What the heck is going on? I got both True Image and Disk Director, and I noted that the payment was processed by acronis.com and the download came from acronis.com.

Now acronis.com says they didn't sell me True Image, and didn't give me Disk Director. They came from a false web site?

So someone has my credit card info now?

Well, that's just great.

I'm still waiting on my serial number for True image. Acronis customer support sucks, no reply from any emails. They don't even reply to paypal after I filed a SNAD, I just want my money back, they just suck!

Edit: Acronis sent my product key, they don't suck!
