Introduction

I'm working on a review of the best Free Blogging Platform. Wordpress will be my number one choice based on the features, plethora of free themes/plugins, and the ability to use it as an alternative to create/host a web site (static content). Blogger will be my recommendation for easiest to use. I welcome comments on your preferences, favorite plugins/themes |

Im interested in checking these out. But just a side note you Vox link takes you to facebook
"...must use wordpress.com domain unless you pay..."
This is not really true. Wordpress is Open Source. I use Wordpress, I don't host it on wordpress.com and I don't pay for it.
I pay for web hosting, but that's a separate issue and there are, in fact, free hosting deals available.
I haven't used Blogger or Live Journal but it's worth noting that Wordpress 3 is now in use and it's a little more user-friendly than version 2.
:)
I'd agree. Blogger has a few unique features, like being able to see on a map where your readers are located. But I've helped people with both and much prefer Wordpress.com Basic setup is dead easy. Pick a name (prefix to wordpress.com), pick a theme and you're ready to rock. There is also lots of customization you can do of the sidebar but that can be done after as you get to know what you want. For example, I have archives and categories rolled up in a pulldown to leave more space for other links.
Static pages means you can add a small web site "behind" the blog - I host the pages on my free web space provided by my internet provider. That's a way of controlling the free web space you're allotted too.
I recommend a theme with a replaceable banner and tabs - then you can design your own (exact size) and add static pages which adds tabs. But you can change your theme any time.
The key with any blog or web site though is content. That will bring the traffic and regualr readers, etc.
Oh - and Feedburner is a great addition for email and RSS subscriptions. etc etc
